Do you think that GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, is a way to use and abuse little girls in a get rich quick scheme.?

April 17th, 2011 3 comments

Question by box1927: Do you think that GIRL SCOUT COOKIES, is a way to use and abuse little girls in a get rich quick scheme.?
Last year Girls Scouts went door to door and sold $ 714 million worth of cookies. Only 10-15 percent actually went to the troops selling the cookies. 50% went to the Girl Scout Council, and the rest went to the bakery.
The Bakery made between $ 250 million and $ 285 million. That is a lot of money to earn from little girls going door to door or standing in the rain at the entrance of Walmart.
We overlook this because we are convinced that the selling of these cookies teaches good character traits, etc.
If you want to buy the cookies, fine. I do because I really enjoy the Somoas and the Mints,
But I also make a donation to my local girl scout troop.

It is always better to make a cash donation than buy cookies and candy.

Quick econ question?

April 17th, 2011 No comments

Question by Max R: Quick econ question?
In 1995, Julia saved $ 1,000 in a money market account that paid 10% interest. Inflation was 5% for the year. Therefore, Julia’s money earned a real interest rate of 5%. In addition, there was a 20% tax on interest income.

What is the after-tax real interest rate Julia earned on her money in 1995? (enter a whole percentage number please).

Thank-you!

Best answer:

Answer by Assbey
julia saved 1,000.
10% interest = 100
Take away the inflation of 5% = 100 – 50

= 50

Then take away the tax.
Tax I presume doesnt take into account real figures in this question, so we are taxing the full 100.

20% of 100 is 20.
50 -20 = 30.

That means she got 30 dollars in interest.

That means that the REAL interest rate (factoring the tax) on that was 3%.

whats the best kind of savings to get?

April 16th, 2011 No comments

Question by IBUM is Roy G Biv: whats the best kind of savings to get?
what kind of savings or money investment is the best kind to get to build a nice amount of money and quick? Also is it true that it is better to bank with an accredited credit union bank for the fact that you will earn more money because they have better rates? When answering this question please be very detailed with the info as to included how much is the minimum amount to get it started and balance. For how long you have to let it mature and if there is a penalty that has to be paid for withdrawing early or borrowing against. If there is a minimum amount that you have to add every month or how often Also what kind of interest rate do these accounts have. You know all the things along those lines.. and any other help full bit of info you may want to add. thank you. bhh
Well I work for the state. Also how are the “Money Market” savings account?

Best answer:

Answer by pita4pres
Credit unions do normally provide better interest rates than banks. Generally the more you put into the account, the better the interest rate you receive. The problem is that savings accounts generally do not have a high rate of return. The upside is that you can withdraw the money pretty much whenever you need it. Most credit unions only require you to keep $ 5.00 in to keep the account active. A Certificate of Deposit (CD) usually has a little bit of a higher interest rate, but your money is generally tied up longer. There will also be penalties for early withdrawal. Your best bet for interest rate information would be to go directly to the bank or credit union you would like to use. Keep in mind that with credit unions there are membership requirements. You may have to belong to a certain group or be employed somewhere specific such as a government agency or be a teacher for example or be related to someone that does meet their membership criteria.

What are some good survey sites that pay through PayPal?

April 16th, 2011 2 comments

Question by hiddenexpose: What are some good survey sites that pay through PayPal?
Preferably ones that do not have the annoying $ 20, $ 30, $ 50, etc payout limit.
Quick payment processing, and is easy to earn. Not full of those annoying “complete offer x for x amount of credit.”

I understand I will not make an income off of this, but I would like to make some extra money.

There was a lady on here that said she worked 40 hours a week for a month.
Two months after she worked full time the whole month
she was wondering where her $ 25 check was.
If that’s not sad .. I don’t know what is.

You dont need an accountant if you think you can do your accounts and tax returns yourself. If the £50pw is your only income, you won’t be liable to tax. If you have another job however, you will have to pay tax.

Where to invest money?

Question by jayalmill: Where to invest money?
I am 20 years old, and i’m a Junior in college. I was curious to see what would be the best type of interest earning accounts to put money into. Would the stock market be a smart investment with stocks being down. I am not looking for a quick turn around but i would like something that i could put money into initially and add more as i feel i can with my financial situation.

Best answer:

Answer by Peggy I
You can arrange to set up an automatic payment that goes into a money market fund or a balanced mutual fund, which will give you a greater return over the long term.

Read – The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton.
It is a skinny book, but explains all about money, saving, building wealth, and buying a house, retirement, and getting ahead.
